5-foot-7, 160 pounds. Guard. Can play point or shooting guard. Very strong and athletic (also a star softball player). Can drive or hit the 3 (36.6% 3-pointers). When drives to the hoop, goes up strong and finishes with her strength. Very good court vision (2.8 assists/game). Strength also helps her be a strong rebounder (5.7 rebounds/game). Solid off-ball defense and instincts to get steals (2.1 steals/game). Good on-ball defense but working to improve. Also working to improve speed and quickness. Leader on and off the court. Very good student (3.8 GPA; marketing major).

Mia Johnson is entering her third spring with CBA South.  On the court, Mia is a complete player.  Her strength and athleticism make her a tough guard.  Her strengths are her court vision and passing, her finishing around the basket through contact, and she also has the ability to make shots from beyond the arc. Mia is a quiet leader.  She attends all of the scheduled workouts and training sessions as well as team practices.  She starts with her form shooting as directed when she is ready to take the court.  She plays the game hard and has fun doing so.  She is a great teammate and is extremely coachable.  One of my favorite players to work with! She not only is an outstanding player and teammate, but gets the job done in the classroom with a 3.8 GPA.  She has been a huge asset to our program and a player and person our young players can look up to.
— Dave Mentkowski, CBA South AAU coach

This is a letter of recommendation for Mia Johnson, who is currently attending South Milwaukee High School and is completing her junior year; I have known her for a period of 3 years. As her AP American Government and Economics teacher, Nation Honor Society adviser, and basketball coach, I am able to observe her in a traditional classroom setting as well as an extracurricular atmosphere. I am pleased to write this letter for her.

There are a number of strengths that Mia possesses: Academically, Mia is one of the top students in her class.  In my classroom specifically, she demonstrated a great intellectual capacity and a desire for learning; her diligence and conscientiousness reflect her entire person. She was also one of the most motivated students I had, often going beyond the requirements of assignments.

Complementing her academic endeavors is Mia’s involvement in various extracurricular activities, ranging from athletics to student government and beyond. Athletically, she has proven herself a leader in multiple sports –basketball and softball. Still, her diverse personality and leadership abilities go beyond athletics. Mia is involved with LINK, our freshmen-mentoring program that not only helps freshmen adjust to high school life, but also supports them academically and socially. She is a student whose involvements reflect her inherent nature of compassion and leadership.

As a player for me on the girls basketball team, she has been instrumental in helping the team win three straight conference championships, receiving all-conference honors in two of the three season. She is an integral part of this team, not only for her strength in scoring, but her penchant for getting the rest of her team involved, whether encouraging them at practice or finding them on the court with a strong pass and assist. She picks up her teammates, encourages them and pushes them to be better. She does all this and still maintains a quiet demeanor, which is something she is “working on” to be more vocal on the court. The reality is Mia works hard, is never satisfied and demonstrates improvement with each practice, game and in the off-season. She is extremely coachable, asks questions and seeks improvement to make her a better player and leader. Very much looking forward to her senior season to see how far she will go.

Mia is also an individual of high moral character. She is a genuine person who cares deeply about others and who maintains a high level of maturity and a desire for learning. Her strengths lie in her personal drive to be a successful, contributing member of society.

It is without reservation that I recommend Mia Johnson. She has the knowledge, skills and attitude that are necessary to make her a successful student-athlete in college.
— James Grassl Jr., South Milwaukee H.S. coach

My name is Mia Johnson, and I am a 2022 grad from South Milwaukee High School in Wisconsin. I play the guard position at 5-foot-7 and 160 pounds. My GPA is 3.8, and I am looking to major in business in college. My points per game rose from 11.3 my sophomore year to 15.3 my junior year (team high) when I earned 1st-Team All-Conference honors.  I am always pushing myself and my teammates for better performance.  Never settling for “good enough.”

The thing that makes me a unique athlete is my unwavering confidence and high basketball IQ.  I get excited for the big moments in games and don’t fold under pressure.  I believe that a strong team dynamic is important for success, both on and off the court.  It was an honor that my teammates voted me both a team captain and the Most Valuable Player my junior season.  As an athlete, I am always working to take my game to the next level by lifting and shooting on my own outside of practice. Academics are very important to me, and I have taken AP classes each year, made the honor roll each semester and participate in clubs like Student Senate and DECA (marketing).

Thank you for taking the time to read about me. I look forward to hearing from you.
