evaluations

5-foot-9, 150 pounds. RHP/SS/2B/3B. Bats R. Throws R. One of the best 2023 prospects I’ve seen in Wisconsin. Very good athlete (also participates in basketball, volleyball). Is a true two-way player with a 64 fastball and power at the plate with a quick, compact swing. In the circle, fastball is her best pitch (very accurate with a late downward movement). Dropball (51 mph) has good bite and can throw for strikes or in the dirt. Throws 41-43 mph C-changeup. Has good deception with changeup. Riseball is 62 mph, and is working on consistency with it and a low rise ball for a strike. 61 mph curveball. At the plate, has home run power. Quick hands and excellent bat speed (76 mph exit). Good follow through. Bats No. 3/4 in lineup. Mostly a pull hitter. Working on hitting opposite way. In the infield, has a good arm (60 mph) and is quick on feet. Outstanding work ethic. Does weight lifting, speed training, jump training, swims, hitting lessons, pitching lessons and does work at home with a pitching machine and batting cage. Very good student (3.744 GPA). Undecided on major.

MESSAGE FROM MCKENNA

Hello, my name is Mckenna Young, and I am a 2023 graduate at Brodhead High School in Broadhead, Wisconsin.  I am a 5-foot-9, 150-pound pitcher and shortstop, but also play third or second as needed.  I currently have a 3.744 GPA. As a pitcher, my fastball is 64 mph. As a softball player, my greatest strengths are my pitching (1st-Team All-Conference, 14-2, 0.61 ERA, 173 SO in 91.1 IP as sophomore), my strong arm at shortstop (62 mph) and my hitting (76 mph exit, .611 BA, 1.833 OPS, 8 HR).

I have a great work ethic. Outside of my regularly scheduled softball practices and games, I put in a lot of extra hours to prepare, such as lifting 2-3 times per week, speed training 2-3 times per week, jump training twice a week, swimming laps daily in the summer, hitting and pitching lessons twice a week for most of the year. I work on my spinner (for pitching) in my living room, and in the summer I have a strict daily schedule of pitching and hitting. My parents bought a pitching machine and batting cage, so I can practice in my backyard from spring through fall. I am also involved in various other school and club sports activities, such as club and school volleyball, and school basketball. I think the other sports I am involved in make me a well-rounded athlete and help me be an even better softball player.

Thank you for reading my essay, and I hope to hear from you soon!
