Varsity letter

Varsity as a sophomore

Joey Meyer

5-foot-7, 170 pounds. 3B/OF. Bats R. Throws R. Very good athlete (plays varsity volleyball and used to play basketball). Power potential with athletic size and bat speed and quick hands (74 mph exit, 21.9 mph max hand speed). Consistent with point of contact. Rarely strikes out (2 strikeouts in 123 at-bats in summer 2020). Consistently puts ball in play. More of a pull hitter. Working to generate more power from legs/hips. At third base, has fast reaction times and strong arm (64 mph). Fearless and not afraid to get dirty. Working to improve being quicker on bunt coverage. Excellent work ethic. Works out 2-3 times a week and goes to hitting cage often. Coachable. Takes directions well. Great attitude. Cheers on teammates. Solid student (3.5 GPA with advanced classes).
— Jason Lauren, ScoutU Head Scout, 414-303-7607,

Joey Meyer is a team-first, performance-driven 3B with excellent bat speed and pop. Additionally, with her strong arm and ability to track balls off the bat, Joey can play either corner outfield position when needed.

Offensively, Joey has the power and skill set to hit from the 3-6 hole in the lineup. Joey possesses power to all fields and has the ability to hit the ball where it is pitched. Joey also understands situational hitting/bunting and is able to move/score runners when needed. The ability to hit for power and situationally makes Joey extremely valuable wherever she bats in a lineup.

Defensively, Joey exhibits great glove work and footwork as a third baseman. Joey has excellent range into the 5/6 hole; as well as quick recognition of an opposing batters’ hands for the bunt read. Joey possesses a strong arm to make the cross infield throws with ease or to start a 5-4-3 double play. Joey plays an aggressive third base against slappers to limit their options. Joey’s focus for improvement will be on backhand reaction time for hard hits down the third base line.

An area of focus offensively for Joey is to look early in the count for a pitch that matches the game situation and attack it. Joey will continue to grow offensively with continued exposure to spin and learning to swing where the ball will be when it comes through the hitting zone.

Off the diamond, Joey is an excellent student (3.5 GPA) and excels in other high school sports. She has played two seasons of volleyball and one season of basketball.
— Troy Fields, Queen of Diamonds 16U Coach

Josephine is a pleasure to coach. She pushes herself to get better with a great work ethic and does it all with joy. She takes instruction and implies all the skills and concepts taught. Her swing is short, compact and powerful. She stands in the box with confidence and consistently drives balls to the outfield. Displays an accurate and strong arm with throws having good carry. Glove work is good with balls hit directly at her. Needs to work on agility and range both on gloveside grounders and backhands. Plays with composure, energy and great desire to win.
— Marcus Hanel, Hitters Baseball Academy Instructor and former MLB catcher

My name is Josephine Meyer, but most of my life people have called me Joey! I currently attend South Milwaukee High School in Wisconsin, and will graduate in 2023. Standing 5-foot-7 and 170 pounds, I am the third baseman on my club team, while my secondary position is left field. My current GPA is 3.5, and I am interested in majoring in pharmacy or something in the medical field. My infield throwing velocity is 64 mph, while my exit velocity is 74 mph. Last fall I posted a .385 batting average with my club team, Queen of Diamonds.

What makes me a special athlete is that I hit for both contact and power, and I rarely ever strike out. This past summer, I only struck out twice in 123 at-bats. I’ve also been told that I am a very slick fielder, with super-fast reaction time. I am also never afraid to play up really close to the batter in any situation. During the offseason, I work out daily (most times after school) by running on my treadmill and using resistance bands and light free weights to increase my arm strength. Every other day I hit off the tee for reps and to make contact at different pitch locations. This school year (2020-2021), I am enrolled in two college credit classes and will be taking more in the future. I am very outgoing, and during middle school I really enjoyed being involved with a mentorship program that helped guide and make sure that incoming junior high students felt welcomed. In the future, I am really looking forward to being a counselor or volunteer at the summer camp that I have attended.

Thank you for taking your time to visit my profile, and I hope to hear from you soon!
