evaluations

5-7, 170, 1B/OF, bats R, throws L. 74 mph bat exit, 54 mph IF. Athletic size and bat speed give her power potential. Often gets deep into counts and takes walks with good eye. Hits up middle and to right side often, but has ability to pull. No. 5 hitter who is clutch with runners on base. Uses bat attachment to critique swing on video. Working to improve not having weight too far back when swinging. At first base, throws left-handed. Good at scooping and can do the splits. Effective at charging bunts and turning double plays. Working to improve tagging runners out on throw downs from the catcher. Vocal leader. Refuses to quit and very dedicated to get better. Works with hitting coach and does personal workouts. Coachable and not afraid to ask questions. Very good student (3.7 GPA, taking AP courses as junior). — Jason Lauren, ScoutU Scout, 414-303-7607 (cell), Jason@ScoutU.com Hazel Duchemin is a right-handed power-hitting/left-handed fielding first baseman. Offensively, Hazel has a powerful swing, which delivers home run distance and hard line drives to all fields. Hazel has quick hands to the ball, which allows her more time to understand pitch spin and location. Additionally, Hazel has a strong eye for the strike zone and will use this to her advantage to stay in favorable counts. This combination provides versatility in the batting order. Defensively, Hazel’s ability to pick short hop throws is unmatched from my coaching experience. Hazel is also an excellent fielder with her glove. These two attributes combined with her ability to stretch into splits have made Hazel a cornerstone for our team at first base. Hazel’s biggest offensive improvement area is to trust what she is seeing sooner, earlier in counts and effectively hit the ball where it is pitched. Remaining patient and letting outside pitches travel deeper and then taking the ball to right field is an area Hazel will continue to focus and grow. Defensively, Hazel is working to improve her range to field a ball to her glove hand (towards second base). Hazel has improved in this area over the past year, and we will continue to work with her to understand this range. Off the field, Hazel challenges herself academically with AP classes and additional sports activities.  Hazel has played two years of tennis (JV) and basketball (freshman — JV; sophomore — varsity) for her high school. — Troy Fields, Queen of Diamonds 16U coach

MESSAGE FROM HAZEL

My name is Hazel Duchemin. I am a class of 2022 graduate at South Milwaukee High School in Wisconsin. I am 5-foot-7 and 170 pounds, and I have 9 years of organized softball experience. My GPA is 3.7, and I am enrolled in multiple AP classes. I am planning on majoring in nursing.

My primary position is first base. As a left-handed first baseman, I am extremely flexible and have the ability to chase down foul balls. I am a right-handed hitter with a bat speed of 74 mph. In the offseason, I work privately with a hitting coach and attend conditioning workouts. Along with softball, I also play doubles tennis and have 7 years of basketball experience, contributing to both varsity conference championships.

This school year, I was nominated by teachers to attend Wisconsin Leadership Seminar (WILS). I am a member of LINK crew, a program that welcomes incoming freshmen and allows volunteering opportunities. I am a dedicated, hard-working individual who knows the importance of academics and extracurricular activities. It’s important for me to stay committed to my responsibilities. I value building team relationships, and I consider myself a natural leader.

Thank you for taking the time to read my information. I look forward to hearing from you.
