evaluations

6-foot-5, 225 pounds. RHP/1B/3B. Big-time potential with size. A true 2-way player (93 mph exit, 90 mph OF, 6.69 60, 80-84 mph fastball). Plays for club team that over 100 players tried out for. At the plate, is a power hitter (93 mph exit). Has a good load and sees the ball well. Hit 5 HRs, batted .405 and had a 1.050 OPS for his club team in 2018, batting No. 3 or 4 and against some of the top competition in the Midwest. Waits for pitch, draws walks and rarely strikes out. Has good follow through with his swing, but working on having quicker hands. Excels better against faster pitchers. In outfield, has very good speed (6.69 60) to track down balls and a big arm (90 mph OF). Also can play first base where he is a big target, picks the ball well and has a good vertical to get to high balls. Excels at going toward the line to rob extra-base hits. Fastball currently sits at 79-81 mph and touches 82, but with his frame and athleticism (also a varsity basketball and football player as a sophomore), I see him easily reaching at least the mid-80s by the time he graduates high school, if not into the upper 80s with some hard work. 4-seam fastball is best pitch (tails out on RH hitter). Also throws a 2-seam, which is like a cutter/curveball with its diving action. Curveball is second-best pitch (can throw for strikes). Keeps changeup low and uses in 1-2 and 0-2 counts.  Works hard in the offseason, doing several baseball and weight training workouts per week. — Jason Lauren, ScoutU Head Scout, 414-303-7607, jason@ScoutU.com Prospect Gavin Roanhouse gets the most out of his huge frame. He’s still a sub-7.0 runner despite his size and he’s able to use it well on his throws home, as well as from the batter’s box. He’s still gaining a feel for his long levers, but the tools are there for Roanhouse to grow into an upside contributor at the next level. Stay tuned. — Prep Baseball Report “Winter Winners”

MESSAGE FROM GAVIN

My name is Gavin Roanhouse, a 2021 graduate from Waterford Union High School in Waterford, Wisconsin. I am 6-5, 225 pounds, and I my primary positions are outfield and pitcher. Something that stands out about me is that I led my team in RBIs, batting average and home runs this past season, playing some of the best teams in the Midwest. This club season I am playing for Hitters after making a try out of more than 100 players. My outfield velocity is 90 mph, my bat exit speed is 93 mph, my 60 is 6.69 and my fastball velocity sits at 80-82 mph and touches 84. My desired college major is physical education. I’m a young 2021 athlete, playing varsity in basketball, football and baseball as a sophomore. The combination of my long legs, large frame, speed, work ethic and swing set me apart from others. Playing three sports allows me to stay in shape year around. In addition to basketball, baseball and football practice, I train 2-3 hours a week. Playing three sports in high school is a large commitment. Since I have entered my freshman year, my grades continue to improve. I go to church every Sunday, and I went on a mission trip to help hurricane victims with cleanup in 2018. I volunteer for fish fries and the wild game dinner every year at my church. I am an on-the-field leader, because I set a good example. Thank you coach for reading my message today. My goal as a college athlete is to represent my school by performing at the highest level possible and to have a positive influence on my team. Thank you.
