Behind the plate, has a very quick transfer (1.83 pop with 58 mph C velocity). Throws from knees. Once gains more arm strength, her pop time will be exceptional. Subtle movements and wrist turns when framing. Keeps chest low when blocking and considers spin of ball to help predict which way it will bounce. Calls own game. Takes note of batter’s stance (where hands are, where stand in box) to help identify what pitches would be most effective. Excellent teammate. Very good work ethic (stays late after practices, works out 2-3 times a week, takes hitting lessons). Enjoys being a leader. Excellent student (4.08 GPA with many Honors courses). Kinesiology major.

MESSAGE FROM GABI
My name is Gabi Olavarria, I am a 2023 catcher and outfielder from Warren Township High School in Gurnee, Illinois. I currently have a 4.08 GPA, and I am very interested in majoring in kinesiology or pre-med. I am a 5-foot-6, 135-pound catcher/outfielder. Something that makes me stand out from others is my work ethic. I workout two to three times a week, and I also take catching, hitting and throwing lessons to help increase my athletic abilities on the field. I have a 1.83 pop, 2.79 20-yard dash and 75 mph bat exit. I batted .517 with a 1.135 OPS during my last club season.
Aside from my hard work ethic, I also have a deep passion and love for the game of softball. The passion I have drives me to be a constant learner of the game, and I take every opportunity I am given to grow as a player, teammate and person. I do my best to share my passion and drive with my teammates by leading and setting high expectations for myself and them. Having the passion that I have allows me to focus and improve each day. Outside of softball, I am enrolled in three honors classes: chemistry, government and economics and Spanish. Last year, I took an honors biology class as well as a sports medicine class that I feel really helped to increase my knowledge and interests in medical studies.
I am looking forward to achieving and pursuing my goal of playing at the collegiate level as I keep working daily.
Thank you for taking the time to view my profile!!!
