This kid is going to be special! Amber Hughes is a LEGIT 2023 RHP/1B from South Carolina. Amber has the size and skill in the circle to compete at a very high level. Standing 5-10, Amber is tossing 60-62 MPH consistently and will touch 63-64 on occasion. Good movement and control with several other pitches. As she continues to grow and develop, her potential is limitless, but I foresee her throwing mid-upper 60s consistently by her graduation date. Not only is Amber exceptional in the circle but she has a dominant bat as well. Very explosive power – hitting 13 home runs this fall against some of the top pitching in the Southeast. She will make a pitcher pay if she makes a mistake! Amber is also a kid of strong moral character and belief. Hardworking and tons of leadership ability with an extraordinary work ethic. She will fit in, and excel, anywhere. Very excited to see where she lands.

Amber Hughes is a unique talent both on and off the field with her powerful skill set. On the field, offensively, Amber is an explosive hitter with home run potential during every at-bat. Amber is also a very good line drive hitter, which produces a high rate of doubles and RBIs with an excellent batting average. Amber has exceptional discipline that leads to an extremely low strikeout rate and a high on-base percentage. Amber’s power and high batting average allows her to be placed in the 3-4 slot in the batting order to produce runs. Defensively, Amber’s primary position is starting pitcher. She possesses great velocity on her fastball and understands the importance of working the zone and mixing up pitches. Amber also has the ability to play first base and third base when not pitching. She will continue to be tasked with becoming a more vocal leader as she assumes her role as team co-captain. Amber’s biggest improvement offensively is understanding how to use her power and strength to start generating home runs consistently. Defensively, Amber’s biggest improvement is understanding how to move pitches around and change speeds to keep hitters off balance. This has helped Amber produce more strikeouts and a higher rate of miss hits by batters. These skills will continue to be refined as she works hard and progresses with her softball career.

Amber is always the first to practice and the last to leave. She is extremely coachable and a good listener. If Amber struggles with a certain part of practice, she will ask to stay after and work on what needs extra attention. Once practice is over, Amber will help by ensuring team equipment is packed and assists in any field maintenance (raking the mound or batter’s box). Off the field, Amber is an excellent student and is also a member of the Senior Beta Club and Honor Roll. Amber has earned three varsity letters from softball and has been the starting varsity pitcher since the 7th grade. In closing, any college or university would be very impressed with Amber’s work ethic and determination to win on the field and in the classroom. Amber is the example of a true student-athlete.

MESSAGE FROM AMBER

My name is Amber Hughes, and I am a 2023 graduate of Mid-Carolina High School in Prosperity, South Carolina. I am a pitcher, as well as 1st and 3rd baseman. I’m currently ranked 16th in my class of 217 and maintain a 4.8 weighted GPA. I take all Honors classes and also some AP classes. Academics are very important to me, and I have been on Principle and A/B Honor Roll throughout my academic career.

I am very determined to be better than I was yesterday and hold myself to very high expectations. I have played competitive fast pitch softball since I was 8 years old, and I’ve always played with teams at higher age levels. I was asked to play on a 18U Jetts Softball team when I was 13, which was a huge honor and opportunity to play very competitively. This allowed me to grow and develop into the player and teammate I am today. I currently play for Fury SC and have for many years. I love my team and my coaches. They motivate me to always be better and practice harder. I practice 2-4 times a week, either with my team or with private pitching/hitting lessons.

My offensive strength is definitely as a power hitter. I have a real eye for my strike zone and know what pitch I need to hit. On defense, I really have a mental capacity to stay in the zone while pitching. My strongest pitch is probably my curveball (60 MPH), which is responsible for many of my strikeouts. I also play 1st base while not pitching. I’ve been told by my coaches that I dig the ball well any way it’s thrown to me.  I have a good glove at 3rd base as well. I am very coachable and love to hear about ways I can improve and get better. I love to be a leader on the team and encourage my teammates to give it their all for a win, or lift them up when we don’t win. I thrive in pressure situations and do my best to stay focused on whatever task is at hand.

Personally, I strive to maintain good values and morals on and off the field. My Christian faith is also very important to me. I have participated in FCA and volunteer domestic and international mission trips to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Helping others is very enjoyable to me. Thank you for taking the time to visit my profile, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
